Gacy had served 18 months in an Iowa prison for sexually assaulting a minor boy, having been released on parole in 1970. In the years after his release, he was arrested in Chicago for trying to coerce a teenage boy into sexual acts, though the charges were dropped when the accused failed to show up to court.
