This story made me go through a mixture of emotions.

Maybe she hated the photo because it reminded her of life as a mother, a role she never wanted. My siblings and I were birth control babies, which our mother enjoyed mentioning when we were kids. Inconvenient accidents. Burdens that kept her from doing the things she’d rather do.
